Post subject: The Holy Family in Egypt - A New window for St. John Vianney
A new stained glass window has been installed in St. John Vianney RC Church in Heathfield Street Bexleyheath. The design is based on the time that the Holy family were refugees in Egypt following persecution after Christ’s birth. The central panels show the Holy family Leaving Egypt to return to Palestine after an angel tells Joseph in a dream that Herod is dead and it is safe to go home. There are pyramids and camels in the background. The side panels feature lilies and stars.

The church commissioned the window through a generous donation from a parishioner, Joseph Pereira, in honour of his family. Sadly Joseph died suddenly on the 29th March 2006 on his 77th birthday just 10 days after the final installation of the completed glass. His funeral mass was held at the church last Wednesday 19th April and many of his relatives from Goa and Kenya attended.

The window was designed and made by stained glass artist - Delia Whitbread MA(RCA). The window can be seen by arrangement with the church on 0208 303 1957. Further information on the design can be found on the artist’s website www.deliandesigns.co.uk
