Post subject: Subud Youth Representation to the United Nations
From Hamilton Manley, SYAI
Over the past several months, I have been communicating with Victor Margolin, who is on the External Affairs Committee for Subud, regarding participation for young Subud members in youth initiatives at the United Nations. It would be great to hear from those with interest and/or expertise in this or other forums and willing to research ways for us to be in the know. Below is an example of one area of discussion.
"The CSD Youth caucus is an international network of over 1000 youth organizations that brings together young people with a desire to build a more sustainable world. Every morning during the Commission, the Caucus meets in one of the UN conferencee rooms to review their lobbying strategy and discuss the developments of the past day. There are two coordinators for this group, Matthew Carroll from the United Kingdom representing the global North, and Emmanuel Edudzie from Ghana representing the global South. Members of WFUNA Youth and interns from the New York office attended these meetings.
There are 2.8 billion people under the age of 25 and it will take only a few more years until youth represents half of the world's population. Youth are therefore one of the biggest stakeholders in sustainable development. Youth have proven to be particularly engaged and effective lobbyists on the issue of energy, for instance cheaper fares for public transportation, environmentally friendly cars, and the creation of youth employment opportunities."
