Dear Sjaharih, have I missed your radio show or is it yet to come? Dance and poetry are potent partners and close to my heart.

love,
Yafiah

Hi Yafiah

yes. For me dance and poetry are twin passions too.
My major interest is contact improvisation.

my radio reading is available through Esaias. I am sure he can set you up with the download of it.

I am currently working on another broadcast of a long dance poem with the music of Mike Vargas. Should be ready in one or two days.

i enjoyed your blog

Tell me Sjahari did Bapak give you the name- it is as unusual as my own Sjariban- modified with the subsequent change in the Indonesian language to Shariban- rare I am told is its use....

Hi Sjahari,

I'll ask Esaias for your radio programme and I will keep my eye on the radio programme so as not to miss it. It sounds great and I'm thinking it's a shame we all live so far apart as it would be great to try some choreography to poetry and music. I know there are dancers in the States who perform to Sufi poetry. Just imagine, a group of poets, dancers, musicians, (and Jungians too, Sjariban). I've been writing some stuff recently about dance, spirituality, and archetypes etc. All we need is a wealthy sponsor!

Did you ask for poets?
I write poetry and am a big fan.

Can I offer you a recent one...

Its not meant to be anti-american in terms of people: I'm not.
Its about politics/other things.

America, what you were founded for

Has not been meted after

Dispensed instead as bible-law

In the markets where you barter

(With a bully’s hammer)

The honest, greedy poor.

Say, USA, do you still Ignore

The far cries of Africa, etc. or

Quote / unquote: ‘No cause for war’

The native dead under the basement floor?

A mouth from the senate

Shivers the wires:

‘Listen up, y’all

The President can wager

These folk deserve to crawl

And are justified to the slaughter’.

Responses please to the opinion store

Or, give us call: six threescore

Six. Be advised however,

We aim to ignore.

It is the same loss, all this;

the empty fall

no less of tears, oil or idle towers.

The eden tree unlearnt in fire,

Now as before.

thank you benito
powerful images and rythm and message
I am wondering about the form - did you invent it or is it a defined form?
is there a pattern for the rhyme?
you repeat the "four" sound over and over and it becomes a kind of huge gong
tolling and tolling.

thank you for the 'gong' description that is actually like what was going on in my head as I thought it
but i didnt use any form i know others have, partly because theres no strict limit on syllables per line or where rhymes go
I sort of just thought it up one day when i was thinking 'i want to simplify how i write' and do that with a proper message. W H Auden could seem very simple but very deep-touching with clear, disciplined poems so I wrote it..
The genesis of the poem was the desire to want to get rid of anger about hypocrisy re:politics/typified by us government...but also about the use of sentimental band aids to cover quite horrible holes in their moral behaviour...the christian references were tied in with that: e.g
'bible-law', 'markets', 'six threescore six', 'fall', 'eden tree'...

Garbled answer, sorry. Hope it is helpful.
