Post subject: Delia's life as rosewindow mistress
------------------------------------------------------------------------
As a stained glass artist it is sad to live in a world where no one makes buildings like Medieval Cathedrals anymore. I was studying sacred geometry at the Royal college and interested in a way of combining religious images from different cultures in one art work. Rose windows - at their best in the cathedrals of France are huge circular patterns of glass and stone still astounding 800 years on.
So in 1989 I set about inventing a geometry on the number 7 to make a new pattern for my modern Feminist (I use the term advisably)window. It took some time and I am still not sure how I did it but I used computer graphics to repeat the image and make a larger design. Despite the crude graphics of the day I thought it wasa great way of making the whole.
It has taken some years for me to get the idea into a virtual reality setting and the support to do it. But as we are not likely to build a great Cathedral with rose windows 15metres in diameter this is the next best thing. And it means we with computers can always have a rose window in our mind if not in reality. I am hoping for a full scale projection eventually when the design is complete with the contribution of others - Watch this space...
I am repeating this message as I was unable to log in successfully previously and do think we should put names to comments as Stew suggests.
