Since helping to organise the Youth Latihan at Congress, which despite the short notice was attended by about 70 young people, I've been trying to set up a World Youth Latihan on the 29th of each month. This would be done in your own homes like the existing World Latihans, but be specifically for youth and newly opened members, who seem to generally have more active latihans than people who've been opened for a long time.

At the time, it seemed like a fantastic idea which appeared out of nowhere, but it's been extremely difficult to co-ordinate. Which is why I'm calling all youth co-ordinators, young helpers, writers, editors and just the highly sociable to spread the word!!

I would really appreciate some advice and feedback - the more people know about it and participate, the stronger and more useful the Latihans will be. I would really love to hear from anyone who has any thoughts or ideas.

If anyone would like to discuss any of this with me, my e-mail address is: frozenjupiter@hotmail.com

Love,
~ Maya King, UK ~

I reckon its a great idea.

And please do not be dissauded or feel in any way disheartened by a lack of response to your post. Subud Life seems to have a time honoured tradition of attracting new members, as well as having many people reading the forums. However, only the brave and not so self-conscious actually post in the forums.

That said, we definitely have a lot more promoting of the Subud Life site to do. Perhaps not enough members know about what is available on site, or simply come on infrequently and we need to keep creating features and reasons for them to come on and use the site more often.

Heidi, Stewart and I are really happy to help promote/publicise World Youth Latihan dates and time(s) and help in anyway else you think will work. Once worked out, as for publicising the dates and time(s) for a Youth Latihan, how about emailing the various national newssheets. You're with Subud Voice right? I am sure the Subud Voice coordinators must have the contact details for most national newsheets around the world. If you get each editor to put a advert/space on the back page say, it will advertise the idea really well. Subud Britain's 'The Journal' already puts World Latihan dates and time(s) up. So does SubudWorldNews on its events page.

Although on a spiritual level a Youth latihan has minimal difference to a non-Youth/whatever latihan, its a great way for Youth in isolated places to feel supported, and for us all to share the quiet and unified feeling across the world. So I am sure it will take off.

So what else do we think needs to be done to help get it happening????

Hi Maya,

I think World Youth Latihans are a great way for us to connect with each other, and support those who are isolated. I just read your article in Subud Voice, I'm sure we'll spread the word!

We're having a youth retreat next weekend here in Western Canada, so I'll let everyone here know about your idea then. It would be great to have the dates posted on this site, so people can check in to see when they are. Also, youth reps in each country could help to pass this information on.

Keep posting information about World Youth Latihans where ever you can, and people will find out about it! Also, we could go one step further and contact National or Regional helpers, so that they in turn can pass the information down to the group level, or to isolated members. I will do this for Canada, as I know there are young people in Canada who are not in major centres with Subud groups.

Thanks for sharing your experiences at Congress and your ideas!

Heidi

I've heard mention of "world latihans" but never given them much thought. Do you suppose it really makes a difference how many people are doing latihan at one time? - in different parts of the world, I mean. Obviously it makes a difference if they're in the same room.

Has anyone here participated in world latihans while at home and felt that their latihan was stronger than it would have been otherwise? It's an interesting concept but I'm wondering if people have found that it holds water. I don't know, maybe I'm too scientific... I'll just have to try it and see. Idea Smile
