To me this topic lies at the heart of Subud because it is about personal subjective experience.
It does not include 'Belief' as all of us must hold to one, and every belief is like a second hand garment. NO! Experience is about what you, me, s/he has experienced themselves personally.
That dream, that extraordinary coincidence, that tale you 'know' is true. And YES! That Latihan where you received what you needed, just when you needed it.
So this section of the Chat Forum is about those experiences unique to each person.
Life is about 'Qualities of the Soul' such as the Gift of Peace- the deep experience of Worship- finding Harmony- the true value of Friendship etc., etc., etc.
I will be back soon enough to share my own personal experiences with you.
In the mean time.... browse and ponder... and don't give away that Experience if it takes from
you...

Shariban, Love the anacronym! I would like some clarification in terms of what shape this thread should take having attempted to revive the "Why I do the Latihan" thread? I can share this however, I teach at a very special school, where students feel safe to bare their souls regularly in a variety of mediums. Sometimes the creative environment is so rich, that the Latihan begins to rise within my limbs, and every shred of anxiety dissolves, leaving me with a deeper sense of purpose. And quite frankly, when working with adolescents day in and day out..... purpose is your most valued friend.
And the next chapter goes to???? |

Hi there Jiwa Walker,
Nice name- walking in the Jiwa! To be moved- the movement in the movement- A topic I
hope to spend the rest of my days developing through Art- Pastel actually-
I have started to paint and hope to develop same into a full time commitment.
Anyway back to the topic..
I too used to work with children with difficulties- Delinquent children as they called them -
rather working class children in the UK who were unable to negociate with the Law and
subsequently were put on an Order for ‘criminal activities.’ Anyway did it for 25 years as a Social Worker and
now work with the clinically ill outpatient - as a Psychotherapist ie,. I work with those who can no longer cope with abuse. It
is interesting to note that brutality is not a mental illness, whereas being brutalised to the point
of collapse is deemed so to abuse is to be sane- Gord let me out! But Sure!... I digress again...
To me you speak of Qualities that the Latihan helps you to be come aware of, ie ‘a deeper
sense of purpose’.
I suggest what is more important than ‘Belief’ (and like cloths we needs must have them) are
‘Qualities.’ One that has accompanied me all my life is the quality of Thankfulness.
Upon reflection is seems to demand a higher power to which one is thankful.
Why do the Latihan...thread thing...you ask.
Well isn’t it wonderful that those who do so do not need to depend on, seek out, or follow
some human who considers they can teach the Soul! Mmmm... and that the Universal Life
Force- or whateveryouwantocallit- has direct contact with ones own Soul and sorts it out.
Anyway... VIBES is about sharing those experiences between ones maker and oneself without
some smart guy/gal believing they know otherwise/better/orwhatever.
SO ... to put my action where my mouth is....
VIBES started with a dream seven years ago this month:
Here is the latter part of it:
The sky was azure in colour. The place was in ancient Greece. There was a Church set in its
own grounds with a path around it. I had walked around clockwise and came to the same gate and was leaving this ancient place I looked up and saw a flying book coming
toward me and then it stoped about ten feet up, suspended, hovering. I know it was about to
take off again and at great speed.
It was transparent, glass like, but could be seen as it was shimmering or vibrating with life. It
was quite a volume too, some 3 inches thick and about one foot square in shape. There
seemed to be a thatched cover on it.
I knew I had to act quickly, so I leaped into the air and grasped it between my teeth.
I know in dreams you can do the impossible etc,. And this was no exception as the book was
so big- and yet I had half of it in my mouth! Mmmmm... (no comment please!)
I seem to float down with the book held firmly between my teeth and before I returned to
earth a voice in the sky said
‘SO YOU WANT EXPERIENCE DO YOU.’
I am not sure if it was a question, rhetorical, or even a warning, but it was not a statement
to take lightly.
I awoke before I touched the earth again. And the ‘statement’ remains with me to this day.
