Esaias,
Thanks for your response. As to suggestions, what about having a place for a printable schedule so that people can find it anytime? For instance if one clicks on the radio site the schedule comes up first then goes to what is on? Listeners could copy the schedule and keep it on the bulletin board or refrigerator as a remind to tune in.
The kinds of music I would like to hear are similar to the ones I suggested in my last message but also favorites from other Subud folks. That way we can all expand our musical knowledge and appreciation a bit.
Also occasional middle eastern, Indian, Indonesian music would be interesting to hear.
What about live musical shows where a performer would just play and sing for a while?
Regarding the question of doing a show, I am wondering how that would work and what kind of equipment would be needed? It is an interesting idea!
Someone who is already doing this kind of thing and might be helpful is Halimah Collingwood from northern California. She has her own local radio show and calls herself 'Halimah the Dreamah' and plays music of all sorts. The following link will take you to the info page on her website:
http://www.halimahthedreamah.com/files/about.htm
She has been doing this for quite a while and was a singer with a band called 'Dan Hicks and his Hot Licks' back in the sixties.

Peace,

Rachman

Hi Rachman, thanks for your input chap!
For 2 months, my internet connection was down and now I have just (in the last 5 days) suceeded in creating a working solution for broadcasting from a PC. This means that more and more broadcasters will be coming online in the very near future. As that happens, we will be developing and creating the broadcasting schedule, which will include shows missed by particular time zones etc.
We are looking to revamp the website to offer a fit for purpose 'listen again' function and podcasting. The amount of work involved is actually immense and thankfully I am recruiting help all the time as the project develops. You are 100% correct in that people will get fed up of trying to tune in if nothing is playing, so I'm attempting to allow broadcasting pretty much 24 / 7 even tho many of the shows and music will be repeated for the time being.
If you would like to get involved - maybe a suggestion as to the kinds of things you'd like to hear on 'our radio station' or anything at all, then don't hesitate.
We're geting there, it's just a matter of time before it's really slick and we have the perfect broadcasting medium.
At some stage i will attempt to rip some of the music you have suggested - might you be interested in broadcasting a little yourself?
Anyhoo, I really hope you enjoy the station and I'm very sorry that you've felt like giving up on tuning in when nothing is showing.
Keep the faith brother, we're in it for the long term
Yours - Esaias

I forgot to add my music preferences:

I have been listening lately to Mindy Smith. She is a fantastic new singer-songwriter who has a distinctive sound and a haunting angelic voice .

Also I have been lately returning to Bob Dylan songs, sung by him and other artists. Listening to the words reminds me of what a powerful influence he had on our society. My favorite right now is 'Forever Young' sung by Kitty Wells.

Lucinda Williams is another favorite. Her songs are filled with the pathos of life and her voice is amazing! Her song stories grab and pull you into her unique world.

For a lively up-beat sound don't miss the Zydeco and Cajun music from Louisiana! Listening to it makes one get up and dance! You cannot be sad when you move to it! There are too many artists to name them all but
Steve Riley, Beau Jocque, Geno Delafose are some great ones that come to mind.

Probably most of these folks have web sites where one can sample their music. Just do a search for the names to see what is available and to hear something unique and different from the normal processed mass market music of today.

I second Eman's suggestion. I have tried tuning in many times only to find nothing on. I think without a schedule of some sort many of us are going to just give up trying to find it. Perhaps it is more available in other time zones, but I tend to look for it late at night, USA Pacific time.

I'll bear it all in mind for next time! It was such fun having another presenter on board last night and doing the hand-over (which I was unable to record) however we recorded nearly 4 hours of the broadcast! Will sit and have a serious think about the format of my show. Anyone who would like to get involved just email Radio@subudlife.com. Esaias

Oooh... music requests

Recently I've been listening to:

Bond
Nelly Furtardo
The Fugees

Hmm... I'm sure nobody is too interested in my music taste, but wouldn't mind hearing any Santana either.
